In the earlier days, the Golden Retriever was used for the purpose of hunting in old England and Scotland. It is due to their true flexibility and medium-size. The AKC recognized the Golden Retriever in 1925 and following this recognition the breed became increasingly popular. The dog received the title for Obedience Champ from the AKC in 1977.

The Golden Retriever is a wonderful dog for a family to own. They became a breed as a mix of several sporting breeds plus some bloodhound.

When fostering or adopting a Golden Retriever one should expect the age to be no younger than two years old. The dog is a loving and gentle companion requiring a lot of exercise as historically they are a hunting dog and sporting breed. During hot weather a Golden requires an access to a shady and breezy wind as they have thick and long coats.
